Online Scams worth $36 Million :(
We found an interesting article on SMH this morning that says Australians are still falling victim to online scams, in particular the Nigerian scammers, with an estimated $36 million lost each year.
Nigerian scams, also known as 419 frauds, are typically conducted via email and centre on the target being persuaded to advance significant sums of money in the hope of realising a much larger windfall some time in the future.
There are many forms of online scams that range from online dating scams, embezzling government employees, long lost rich relatives, European and construction businesses. Although the scams tell a different story the end game is always the same. Victims believe that they are sending money in good faith to the scammers in the promise of receiving a large profit at the end of the process.
Unfortunately this is never the case as the scammers continue to ask for money until the victim either wises up or runs out of cash.
The best way to protect yourself is to be very sceptical about emails promising you a share of cash or some other reward if you can send money or information in return.
If you think you have received a Scam email you can either check the Win Big website for the latest scams or you can send it through to us here at Win Big and we can confirm it for you. As a Win Big Competition Club member you can rest assured that you will only receive legitimate offers from our trusted partners.
But be vigilant and make sure that you don’t fall victim to online scams
